HA NOI (VNS) — The United States International Trade Commission (ITC) has decided to maintain its anti-dumping tax on tra fish fillets imported from Viet Nam for at least five more years. The Viet Nam Competition Authority under the Ministry of Industry and Trade broke the news on the decision following the commission's second sunset review for anti-dumping duties on Vietnamese tra fish fillets.

BRUSSELS, Nov 21 (Reuters) - A plan giving Brussels new powers to fight unfair Chinese exports "is dead", Italy said on Friday, with the European Union ideologically split over how to deal with countries that dump cheap goods in Europe. Following rows over Chinese goods ranging from telecoms to solar panels, the European Commission, the EU executive, proposed rules in 2013 to make it easier to penalise exporters that sell goods at below production costs.

China and South Korea are set to complete negotiations on a bilateral free trade agreement (FTA) by the end of this year, which is expected to push Japan to step up the China-South Korea-Japan trilateral FTA negotiations, reports Shanghai's China Business News. China's Ministry of Commerce spokesman Shen Danyang said on Nov. 18 at a regular press conference that the establishment of the China-S. Korea FTA will facilitate the integration of the two countries in regional value chains and help in the unification of economies in East Asia and Asia Pacific.

Strong leadership in India and substantive arguments led to resolution of differences on food security related issues and paved the way for ending the impasse at the WTO soon, Commerce Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said on Friday. India’s voice is not just heard but taken seriously at global institutions like the IMF, the World Bank and G-20, she added.

The WTO’s objections over our grain stockpile do not make sense. Hence the July stand-off and the recent resolution India’s tough stance at the World Trade Organisation over public stockpiling of food grain and its dispute resolution with the US is being portrayed as another instance of the trade brinkmanship. With the signing of the indefinite “peace clause”, India can continue with its food subsidy programme pending a permanent settlement of the issue. But is it right to look upon this as brinkmanship?

THE Department of Agriculture (DA) said anti-dumping duties on Turkish flour will take effect starting next month in line with the findings of the Tariff Commission that Turkish exporters were selling wheat flour to the Philippines at below market prices in Turkey. Under Department of Agriculture Order 10, Agriculture Secretary Proceso Alcala requested the Department of Finance, through the Bureau of Customs, to impose a definitive anti-dumping duty against 17 Turkey-based exporters.

Member states of the European Union (EU) will discuss a proposed regulation updating the bloc's trade defense instruments, a statement said on Wednesday. To tackle unfair competition from dumped and subsidized imports, the Council of the EU is scheduled to debate a draft regulation at an upcoming trade minister meeting aimed at updating EU instruments, which have remained largely unchanged since 1995. The statement outlined EU plans to enhance transparency and predictability of the imposition of provisional anti-dumping and anti-subsidy measures.

The move goes against the spirit of free trade as well as the growing bilateral economic and trade relations and the comprehensive partnership between the two countries, Binh said at a regular press conference in Hanoi on November 20.  “We affirm that Vietnamese companies do not dump frozen pangasius fillets on the US market,” he stressed. 

A Trade Joint Working Group, set up by the Federation of Canadian Municipalities (FCM) and the Department of Foreign Affairs, Trade, and Development, has been tasked with ensuring that small firms and individual taxpayers benefit from the recently completed trade deal with the European Union. The group is tasked with developing joint initiatives to provide municipal officials with trade promotion tools, including trade and investment programs and services, and activities and practical information regarding international trade agreements and opportunities.
