The IPEF Clean Economy Agreement (Pillar III)

Within the framework of the IPEF Ministerial Conference held in June 2024, 14 IPEF partners officially signed the Agreement on IPEF, the IPEF Clean Economy Agreement (Pillar III) and the IPEF Fair Economy Agreement (Pillar IV).

The IPEF Clean Economy Agreement is an economic framework that will support the IPEF partners’ efforts towards achieving their respective climate goals by accelerating the deployment of clean technologies and facilitating investment. According to the Agreement, the 14 IPEF partners committed to strengthening cooperation efforts to (i) develop and deploy clean energy and climate-friendly technologies; (ii) provide renewable energy and use energy efficiently; (iii) reduce methane emissions, provide decarbonization in various sectors; (iv) make efforts to conserve and restore natural ecosystems including forests, land and water; and (v) promote low-and zero-emission goods and services … In addition, to support the commitments that IPEF partners have made, the Agreement also outlines incentives that support the implementation of the Agreement, such as financing and technical assistance and capacity building.
