SEOUL, July 22 (Xinhua) -- South Korea's imports of leisure products jumped 26.8 percent in the first half of this year due to stronger demand for camping and outside family activities, the customs office said Friday.

Imports of leisure products reached 198 million U.S. dollars during the January-June period, up 26.8 percent from a year earlier, the Korea Customs Service (KCS) said in a statement.

The import expansion was mainly attributable to rising income levels and growing demand for camping and other family activities, according to the KCS.

Imports of camping equipment such as tents and sleeping bags surged 63.5 percent on-year to 31 million dollars in the first quarter, with inbound shipments of tents and sleeping bags advancing 64.4 percent and 34.1 percent respectively.

Swimming suit imports for women grew 44.7 percent on-year to 8.1 million dollars, with imports of sunglasses jumping 23.6 percent, according to the statement.
