EU puts barriers for India's textile, garments exports

New Delhi, Mar 9 (PTI) The government today said European Union (EU) has been raising non-trade barriers like labelling and certification against India's textiles and garments exports.
"Yes Sir, EU has been raising protective barriers against textiles and garments exports from India through non-tariff barriers such as labelling, certification and REACH (Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation and Restriction of Chemical substances)," Minister of State for Commerce and Industry Jyotiraditya Scindia said in a written reply to Rajya Sabha.
He was replying to a question whether EU has been raising protective barriers against garment exports from India.
He said to ensure that Indian exports are not denied market access particularly in Europe, the commerce and textiles ministry have been raising the issue of protective barriers in the India-EU Sub-Commission on trade.
