Vietnam, US pledge efforts to foster bilateral cooperation

Vietnam and the U.S. have vowed to closely coordinate in boosting cooperation between the two countries, including finalizing negotiations for the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) agreement.  

The vow was made at a reception hosted by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Pham Binh Minh for U.S. Ambassador to Vietnam Ted Osius in Hanoi on Thursday, the Vietnamese Ministry of Foreign Affairs reported.

At the function, both sides reviewed the development of bilateral ties since the Vietnam-U.S. comprehensive partnership was established in 2013, and agreed to work closely to organize activities, including mutual high-ranking visits, to celebrate the 20th anniversary of diplomatic ties this year.

The host and guest also discussed coordination in finalizing negotiations for the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) pact as scheduled.

Deputy PM Minh hailed Ambassador Osius’ efforts to promote bilateral relations so far and called on him to continue to closely coordinate with Vietnamese agencies concerned to step up cooperation in the framework of bilateral comprehensive partnership for mutual benefit and for the sake of peace and stability in the region.

Ambassador Osius affirmed that he would endeavor to promote cooperation between the two countries, especially in trade, investment, education, and interpersonal contacts in order to make their ties more efficient and practical.
