Groser quiet on TPP dairy tariffs

The Trade Minister won’t confirm if New Zealand will sign up to a trans-Pacific trade deal without zero tariffs on dairy exports.

Tariffs on dairy products going into American and Japanese markets is one of many contentious issues still being thrashed out in the controversial trade agreement.

Minister Tim Groser wouldn't say what New Zealand's bottom line was on dairy tariffs speaking on Q&A.

"New Zealand will make a judgement about what's in the national interest," says Mr Groser. "It's absolutely certain that it will be the next Parliament after the election that will have to take the decision. So ultimately New Zealanders are going to have their say."

Mr Groser says the Prime Minister will have an excellent chance to bring up issues with the TPP during his upcoming trip to the United States.
