Viet Nam’s Embassy in Italy has taken part in the Torino-ASEAN (ToAsean) programme in Turin, the industrial and innovation hub of northern Italy, and organised the Viet Nam-Italy Technology Connectivity Forum in Pianezza, a centre for Italy’s supporting industries and innovation.
The events opened new opportunities for links between Viet Nam and the business community in the Piemonte region.
The ToAsean programme and the Viet Nam-Italy forum captured major interest from businesses and industry associations across Piemonte, offering a venue for discussions on cooperation trends between Italy and Southeast Asian countries. The events also reflected growing interest among Italian businesses in the Vietnamese market.
Speaking at the events, Vietnamese Ambassador to Italy Nguyen Phuong Anh highlighted the high level of political trust and the increasingly substantive, multifaceted relationship between Viet Nam and Italy. These foundations, he said, are creating favourable conditions for stronger business links, deeper economic cooperation and expansion into strategic and high-tech sectors in the years ahead.
The ambassador noted that Viet Nam is working towards becoming a regional hub for high-tech industries, renewable energy, digital infrastructure, artificial intelligence, advanced manufacturing and sustainable industrial ecosystems. In this context, Viet Nam places particular importance on cooperation with Italian businesses and organisations, as the two countries possess highly complementary strengths.
Italy offers world-class expertise in industry, technology and design, while Viet Nam provides advantages in market access, strong manufacturing momentum, and connectivity to ASEAN and the broader Asia-Pacific region, he added.
Italian businesses showed particular interest in Viet Nam’s industrial development priorities, green transition and innovation agenda, as well as information on the country’s economic growth, position within regional supply chains and broad network of next-generation free trade agreements.
According to many businesses in Turin and the wider Piemonte region, Viet Nam is emerging as one of Asia’s most dynamic markets and a gateway for Italian businesses seeking to expand their presence in Southeast Asia and the Asia-Pacific.
Participants expressed interest in establishing more direct links with Vietnamese localities, business partners and industry associations, particularly in precision engineering, supporting industries, automation, design, green technology and high-quality workforce training.
Piemonte, and Turin in particular, has long been one of Italy’s leading industrial and innovation centres. The region is known for its strengths in automotive manufacturing, mechanical engineering, aerospace, materials technology, design and innovation, while also serving as a base for many technologically advanced small and medium-sized enterprises.
As European businesses are seeking new growth markets and diversify supply chains, many companies in Piemonte view Viet Nam as a promising partner with strong complementary advantages.
