Fruit and vegetable exports to China reach record high

Fruit and vegetable exports to China are projected to reach a record high in 2025, accounting for nearly two-thirds of the total export value of the entire industry.

According to the latest statistics from the Viet Nam Customs Department, the export value of fruits and vegetables for the whole year reached over 8.56 billion USD, an increase of nearly 20% compared to 2024. The Chinese market alone brought in approximately 5.5 billion USD, accounting for over 64% of the total export value and becoming the decisive driving force for the overall growth of the entire industry.

The main driving force behind the breakthrough came from key products, with durian playing a leading role. Bananas also rapidly expanded their market share thanks to abundant supply, competitive prices, and shorter shipping times compared to those from South American countries.

In the context of China's expected tightening of traceability requirements, Vietnamese businesses are being urged to prepare complete planting area codes, packaging facilities, and compliance documentation.

Looking ahead to 2026, Mr. Dang Phuc Nguyen, General Secretary of the Viet Nam Fruit and Vegetable Association, also noted that fruit and vegetable exports still have room for growth, but risks are also increasing.

From June, China is expected to tighten traceability requirements under Orders 248 and 249. If businesses do not adequately prepare planting area codes, packaging facilities, and compliance documentation, exporting to this market will face many challenges, especially for high-volume products such as durian and bananas.
