Ukraine set to start exporting poultry to EU
25/07/2013 60Ukraine is set to export poultry to European Union (EU) countries starting from July 24, Agriculture Minister Mykola Prysyazhnuk announced Tuesday.
"I am convinced that this year we will export at least 50,000 tons of poultry to European markets. And this figure is expected to grow with each passing year," Prysyazhnuk told a press conference here.
Prysyazhnuk said that currently four Ukrainian companies were certified to export chicken meat to European countries.
Kiev, which supplies poultry mainly to the post-Soviet, Middle East and African markets, received permission from the EU to export poultry, eggs and egg products in late 2012.
According to local experts, Ukraine has a potential to ship around 200,000 tons of chicken meat to European countries per year.
In 2012, Ukraine's poultry production totaled 1.066 million tons and the output is expected to increase by 14 percent this year.
