HANOI, Dec. 5 (Xinhua) -- Vietnam is expected to export 7.7 million tons of rice in 2012, setting a 20-year record high due to increased export orders in the last months in 2012, state-run Vietnam News reported on Wednesday, citing the sources from the Vietnam Food Association (VFA).

According to Truong Thanh Phong, VFA's Chairman, in November alone, the number of new orders has increased 11 percent over the same period last year. So far, the country has signed contracts to export eight million tons of rice, up 10 percent year-on-year.

In the first 11 months this year in 2012, Vietnam exported 7. 104 million tons of rice at an average price of 445.56 U.S. dollars per ton, pocketing nearly 3.2 billion dollars, said VFA.

Compared to the same period last year, the country's rice export volume increased 5.57 percent, while export price down by an average of 43.3 dollars per ton.

During the period, the amount of high-quality rice export accounted for 3.358 million tons, up 78 percent year-on-year, according to VFA.

The increase in quantity of high-quality rice greatly contributed to raise the average export price and purchasing price, making farmer to get benefit of over 30 percent, Phong said.

In 2011, Vietnam exported over 7.1 million tons of rice.
