According to Reuters, on July 18, the two-day meeting of G20 economic and finance ministers in India officially ended. During his presidency, New Delhi looks forward to being able to reach consensus on reforming multilateral banking, creating global regulation of cryptocurrencies, and addressing the debt situation of developing countries. . However, the Ukraine issue still exerts a great influence on the global diplomatic situation.
“All of our agendas have been agreed. Even so, countries like the US, Germany, Great Britain and France are still asking for more tough measures against Russia. Of course Russia and China. China objected,” an Indian official told Reuters.
The Indian official said the host country was unable to come up with a draft joint statement that all members agreed to. Some countries insist that the end of the Ukraine conflict be included in the text, while Russia calls it a “special military operation”.
On the Indian side, New Delhi remained neutral, refused to condemn Russia and urged all parties to find a diplomatic solution to the Ukraine issue.
Earlier, an Indian official said that mediating between Russia and Ukraine is not the duty of the G20. This task should be left to the United Nations and the officials in charge of bilateral negotiations.
The recent meeting held in the state of Gujarat was the third financial meeting of the G20 in India’s presidency. Since taking over the position last December, New Delhi has not been able to convince the group to issue a joint statement.
