Vietnamese enterprises pumped more than 136 million USD of total investment into new projects and to supplement capital in ventures abroad in the first five months, equivalent to 43% of the figure seen in the same period last year.

The Ministry of Commerce (MoC) yesterday inked an agreement with Pakistan to establish a joint committee aimed at elevating trade cooperation. It is also preparing another Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to be signed with Bangladesh to promote the trade of rice.

Major companies impose peak season surcharges on some significant routes

Measures should be taken to bolster the development of Việt Nam’s mechanical engineering industry. Despite having about 3,100 mechanical engineering companies with 53,000 production facilities, the firms account for just 7 per cent of the market, according to the Vietnam Association of Mechanical Industries (VAMI).

After record profits and strong growth in 2023, the industry's momentum faced limitations in 2024 due to rising raw material costs and increased market competition.

Although the Government, ministries, and local authorities have been proactive from the beginning of the year, by the end of May 2024, the disbursement results of public investment funds sourced from abroad by ministries and localities still reached very low rates. This is a significant obstacle to achieving the goal of disbursing 95% of the foreign-sourced public investment funds that the Government set out at the beginning of the year.

The forecast indicates that demand for rice, vegetables, fruits, and other agricultural products from Vietnam is expected to surge in the remaining months of 2024, and proactive measures are crucial to capitalize on this opportunity.

Over the past four months, Việt Nam exported 3.23 million tonnes of rice, worth US$2.1 billion, up 12 per cent in volume and 37 per cent in value, according to the General Department of Customs.
