World trade recovered to pre-crisis levels in 2010, but protectionist pressures in a more uncertain 2011 climate should be resisted, according to the World Trade Organization. Miami: Hopeful of ending 18-year-old talk, Russia expects to join the World Trade Organisation (WTO) this summer if US supports, Deputy Prime Minister Sergei Ivanov told a forum of emerging markets in Miami on Thursday. "Provided support from our partners, first and foremost, the United States which numerously stressed priority of Russian accession to the WTO, we hope to become members of the organization already this summer," Ivanov said. He underlined the US support was specifically significant for Russia.

Taiwan was the world's 16th largest exporting country and 17th biggest importer in 2010, according to a report released by the World Trade Organization (WTO) on Thursday. Taiwan had US$275 billion in exports and US$251 billion in imports last year, the WTO report said. China's Ministry of Commerce (MOC) announced Friday that the country would end anti-dumping measures against cold-rolled stainless steel sheets imported from Japan and the Republic of Korea (ROK), effective on April 8. A statement on the MOC website Friday said China had first slapped an anti-dumping tax on cold-rolled stainless steel sheets from Japan and the ROK for a five-year term in 2000. The country decided on April 8, 2006 to further extend the anti-dumping measures for another five years, the statement said.

GENEVA - Exports jumped 14.5 percent last year — the biggest rise recorded since 1950 — as economies rebounded from the global downturn, the World Trade Organization said Thursday. Cross-border trade is expected to recover further in 2011, the WTO said in its annual report. Based on a 3.1 percent rise in gross domestic product worldwide, it predicts exports will grow a further 6.5 percent this year, slightly above the 6 percent yearly average between 1990 and 2008.

(Reuters) - World trade will grow faster than the 7 percent long-term average rate for a second successive year in 2011 but fall short of last year's dramatic rebound, the World Trade Organisation is likely to forecast on Thursday. Forecasts based on a similar model of world trade to that of the WTO by the CPB Netherlands Bureau for Economic Policy Analysis put 2011 merchandise trade growth, as measured by volume of exports, at around 10 percent this year, down from an estimated 15 percent in 2010 when trade volumes roared back after shrinking 13 percent in 2009.
