NEW DELHI: Government is likely to impose anti-dumping duty on a certain type of aluminium alloy auto wheels imported from China, Thailand and Korea, to protect domestic players from below-cost imports. In its preliminary findings, the Directorate General of Anti-dumping and Allied Duties (DGAD) has recommended imposition of duty ranging between USD 1.18 and USD 2.15 per kg on imports of cast aluminium alloy wheels from the three countries, the Commerce Ministry said in a notification.

Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) member countries are working to reduce import tariffs to 5 percent or less on a list of environmental goods by 2015, and will also explore opportunities for building on this initiative within the World Trade Organization. During an interview, Dr. Phyllis Genther Yoshida, the leader of the APEC Energy Working Group, as well as the United States Deputy Assistant Secretary of Energy, explained the list's significance and how it fits with APEC's broader work to improve energy efficiency and lower greenhouse gas emissions.

During a meeting on January 16 in New Delhi between South Korean President Park Geun-hye and India's Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, the two leaders agreed to upgrade their comprehensive economic partnership agreement (CEPA) and put into effect the revised double taxation agreement (DTA) between the two countries as soon as possible. Given the potential for economic cooperation between India and South Korea, the two leaders agreed, in a joint statement, to make efforts to expand and deepen the bilateral economic relationship.

TAIPEI, Taiwan -- President Ma Ying-jeou said yesterday that the government hopes to sign a foreign investment promotion and protection agreement as well as an avoidance of double taxation agreement with Canada. The government also hopes that Canada can help Taiwan join the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP), Ma added. The president made the comments during a meeting with Canadian Senator James Cowan, Canadian Member of Parliament Dominic LeBlanc and other Canadian lawmakers at the Presidential Office.

Taiwan is finally ready to lift its ban on Canadian bone-in beef from cattle under 30-months old. The announcement was made Friday after the country's food safety agency gave Canadian beef the green light in terms of meat safety and fell into line with other countries in Asia. We are also confident that the government's decision to relax the ban won't compromise the level of safety for Taiwanese consumers.

(Reuters) – China hit the United States with final anti-dumping and anti-subsidy duties on imports of solar-grade polysilicon on Monday, the latest move in what has been a contentious trade battle in the solar industry. The anti-dumping duties, announced by China's Commerce Ministry, were in line with initial levels levied last year of up to 57 percent on imports of the raw material used to make solar panels.

(Reuters) – Russia plans to support its struggling auto industry with subsidies of up to 271 billion roubles ($8 billion) in the three years to 2016, the government said. Russian car sales fell in 2013 and face another weak year as a stuttering economy puts off buyers, according to lobby group the Association of European Businesses (AEB). The subsidies will be for research and development, to support jobs and to compensate for some costs related to meeting tighter exhaust emission standards, the government said in a statement on its web site.

BEIJING, Jan. 21 (Yonhap) -- China has imposed five-year, anti-dumping duties on imports of South Korean and U.S. solar-grade polysilicon, in what is widely viewed as the latest move to protest its domestic solar industry. The punitive tariffs on imports of South Korean solar materials, announced by China's commerce ministry late Monday, were set between 2.4 percent and 48.7 percent. The ministry also imposed anti-subsidy duties of up to 2.1 percent and anti-dumping duties ranging from 53.3 percent to 57 percent on imports of U.S. solar-grade polysilicon.
