(Reuters) - Egypt's steel companies have filed a petition against rebar and wire rod imports from China, Turkey and Ukraine, one of its top steelmakers said on Tuesday, the latest move in a years-long quest to protect the fledging industry from low-priced imports. Egyptian Steel and other major steelmakers have submitted a request for the government to re-introduce anti-dumping duties on imports of rebar and wire rod, used in the construction industry, Ahmed Abou Hashima, chief executive of Egyptian Steel said in an interview. The filing was made in May.

(Reuters) - India will not support a trade protocol ahead of a July 31 deadline unless concerns about its food subsidies are met, two senior government officials said on Wednesday, a position that threatens to derail a landmark global trade deal. The determination to link its food subsidy programme, aimed at supporting the poor, to backing the protocol raises the stakes at a World Trade Organization meeting on Thursday, with one Western diplomat calling India's position "suicide."

A month after American commercial inspectors ruled that Vietnamese oil pipes were being 'dumped' onto the US market, the Canadian government initiated its own anti-dumping probe. On Monday, the competition authority of Vietnam’s Ministry of Industry and Trade confirmed that the Canada Border Services Agency had opened an investigation into a series of pipes and parts used in petroleum production or “oil country tubular goods” (OCTG) in its first AD and CVD case against Vietnam.

NEW DELHI: Finance Ministry is considering the suggestions of Director General of Antidumping and Allied Duties to impose duty on imports of solar cells, Parliament was informed today. DGAD has stated in its findings that solar cells, modules or panels have been exported to India from China, Taipei, Malaysia and USA below the normal value, resulting in the dumping of the product. The domestic industry has suffered material injury due to the dumping.

The Japanese government has threatened to file a complaint against Korea with the World Trade Organization unless it lifts an import ban on seafood from eight prefectures in Japan in the next few months.  The ban was imposed in the wake of the Fukushima nuclear disaster. The government here is minded to oblige but is wary of the reaction from Korean consumers and would prefer to take its time. 

HA NOI (VNS)   — Viet Nam has seen a trade surplus of over US$924 million with Australia in the first half of this year, the General Department of Customs reported. During the reviewed period, Vietnamese exports to Australia rose 24.3 per cent year-on-year, reaching $1.89 billion, it said, adding that a majority of Viet Nam's exported goods to the market had enjoyed an increased turnover over last year's corresponding period.

HANOI, July 22 (Xinhua) -- Vietnam made over 9.38 billion U.S. dollars from garment exports in the first half of 2014, up 19.8 percent year-on-year, accounting for 13.2 percent of the national total export revenue during the period.

As the US Department of Commerce will decide on preliminary anti-dumping tariffs on PV products imported from China and Taiwan on July 24, Taiwan-based PV module makers using in-house-produced solar cells can tolerate rates of 15-20% to maintain price competitiveness in the US market, according to industry sources. But for PV module makers using outside-supplied solar cells, tolerable rates will be lower at 5-8% due to higher production costs, the sources said.

Despite the effort made earlier this month by South Korean President Park Geun-hye and her Chinese counterpart, Xi Jinping, in agreeing that their two countries should conclude free trade agreement (FTA) negotiations by the end of 2014, the latest 12th round of talks were said to have produced little, or no, progress on tariffs.
