TEHRAN, Oct. 7 (Xinhua) -- In a bid to support domestic producers, Iranian government passed a bill prohibiting Iranian firms and organizations from importing commodities which are already produced by domestic companies, the local English language satellite Press TV reported on Friday.

The bill was passed by the government in the meeting session of the cabinet in Iranian northwestern city of Hamedan on Thursday, said the report.

"Purchasing Iranian commodities is the best way for supporting and helping domestic producers," Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad was quoted as saying without further elaboration.

According to the report, earlier Supreme Leader of the Islamic Republic Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei called on the government to make necessary arrangements for the promotion of productivity within the country by limiting the imports of foreign commodities to those which are not produced inside Iran.
