Vietnam’s export situation to Thailand
Export value
Thailand is one of Viet Nam’s most important export markets, ranking first in ASEAN and ninth worldwide according to 2024 ITC Trade Map data. During the 2015–2025 period, Viet Nam’s exports to Thailand expanded remarkably, surging 2.7-fold from USD 3.18 billion to USD 8.79 billion. Despite a nearly 6% contraction in 2023 amid the global trade slowdown, Viet Nam’s exports to Thailand recovered in 2024, increasing by 9.81% year-on-year to USD 7.61 billion.
However, despite this growth, Viet Nam’s exports to Thailand remain modest relative to bilateral potential. In 2025, exports to Thailand accounted for only 1.9% of Viet Nam’s total export turnover and around 2.5% of Thailand’s total imports, indicating substantial room for market-share expansion.

Main export products and market share
In 2025, Viet Nam’s main exports to Thailand included electrical and mechanical machinery, transport equipment, mineral fuels, footwear and seafood.
Most of the top 10 Vietnamese export items to Thailand still held only a small market share in that market, generally below 7%. Miscellaneous edible preparations and footwear were the only two product groups with relatively significant shares, accounting for 24.15% and 28.62% of Thailand’s imports in the respective categories. This makes Viet Nam a major supplier of these products in the Thai market.
