The European Parliament Committee on Development has produced an Opinion for the Committee on International Trade on the subject of the conclusion of the Protocol Amending the Marrakesh Agreement Establishing the World Trade Organisation.

It notes that the Trade Facilitation Agreement (TFA), which is the main outcome of the Doha Development Round, will be the main source of gains for many developing countries. The Opinion calls the agreement a historic: “along with making it easier, faster and  cheaper to trade, removing administrative hurdles should also help developing countries and their businesses, including SMEs, to better integrate in regional and global value chains, and thus to reap greater benefits from international trade.”

It underlines the relevance of special and differentiated treatment, as well as technical and financial assistance. The EU has provided €400million over five years to support Aid for Trade.
