Viet Nam's transport sector continued to post robust growth during the first five months of 2026, supported by rising travel demand and the accelerated implementation of major transport infrastructure projects.
According to the Nation Statistics Office, passenger transport in May increased by 17.8% year-on-year in terms of passenger volume and by 13.9% in passenger traffic.
Freight transport also recorded solid gains, with cargo volume rising 13.8% and freight traffic increasing 15.7% compared with the same month last year.
During the January-May period, transport operators carried an estimated 2.78 billion passengers, up 19% from a year earlier. Passenger traffic reached 150.4 billion passenger-kilometers, representing a 13.4% increase.
Freight transport maintained strong momentum, with total cargo volume reaching 1.36 billion tons, up 13.9% from the same period in 2025. Freight traffic rose 11.3% to 261.5 billion ton-kilometers.
