Foreign ministers from the Quad (Quad) group of countries met in New Delhi, India, on May 26 to discuss issues related to the Indo-Pacific region, maritime security, supply chains, energy, and counter-terrorism.

Speaking to reporters after the conference, Indian Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar described the meeting as "substantive and effective," and thanked Australian Foreign Minister Penny Wong, Japanese Foreign Minister Toshimitsu Motegi, and US Secretary of State Marco Rubio for attending.

According to Mr. Jaishankar, this is the first Quad foreign ministers' meeting in 2026, following two meetings held in 2025. Much of the discussion focused on the current global situation, particularly issues directly related to the Indo-Pacific region.

The Indian Foreign Minister emphasized that the four member countries are all maritime democracies located in different positions within the Indo-Pacific region, therefore sharing perspectives and coordinating actions is crucial.

The countries also agreed to continue promoting deeper cooperation in these areas in the future. The conference also discussed ensuring safe and smooth maritime trade and reaffirmed the importance of adhering to international law.

According to Mr. Jaishankar, the four Quad countries are all market economies and share the view that they need to strengthen economic resilience, consolidate supply chains, promote safe and reliable technologies, and enhance production capacity.

The discussions also addressed issues related to energy supply, fertilizers, and other important minerals and resources. The goal was to strengthen cooperation among member countries while supporting other partners in the region.
