On March 8, 2018, the Ministers of the 11 countries including Australia, Brunei, Canada, Chile, Japan, Malaysia, Mexico, New Zealand, Peru, Singapore, and Viet Nam signed the certified text of the CPTPP Agreement and related instruments. On December 30, 2018, the CPTPP officially entered into force for the first group of six countries that completed their ratification procedures, namely Mexico, Japan, Singapore, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand. For Viet Nam, the Agreement officially entered into force on January 14, 2019.
The CPTPP is regarded as a “21st-century agreement,” expected to promote economic growth across all member countries, create additional employment opportunities, contribute to poverty reduction and improved living standards, foster innovation, enhance labor productivity and competitiveness, promote transparency and good governance, and strengthen labor and environmental standards.
With a view to providing state management agencies, enterprises, and the public with clearer, more accurate, and comprehensive information and perspectives on the CPTPP, the Ministry of Industry and Trade, in coordination with the Government Negotiation Delegation, compiled the book “The Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP): Insider Commentaries.” The book provides basic information and, in particular, analyses, commentaries, and responses to frequently asked questions from negotiators directly involved in the CPTPP negotiations regarding the Agreement’s contents and commitments in each respective field.
