The EVFTA: Insider Commentaries

On 30 June 2019, the Free Trade Agreement between Viet Nam and the European Union (EVFTA) was officially signed in Hanoi. Following the completion of domestic legal procedures by both Viet Nam and the EU and their mutual notification, the EVFTA officially entered into force on 1 August 2020.

The EVFTA is a comprehensive, high-quality agreement that ensures a balanced distribution of benefits for both Viet Nam and the EU. The ratification and entry into force of the Agreement reaffirm the commitment of both sides to strengthening and further deepening their cooperative relationship, particularly in the fields of economy, trade, and investment. The Agreement also provides a solid foundation for unlocking the potential for trade, investment, and cooperation between Viet Nam and the EU in the coming period.

With the aim of providing a reliable reference source on the commitments under the EVFTA, the Ministry of Industry and Trade, in coordination with the Government Negotiation Delegation on International Economic and Trade Issues, compiled and published the book “The Vietnam-European Union Free Trade Agreement (EVFTA): Insider Commentaries.” The book was prepared by experts with extensive experience in international economic integration, with the support of officials who have been and continue to be members of the EVFTA negotiating delegation. With its rich content and simplified professional commentaries, the Ministry of Industry and Trade expects that this publication will help enterprises, regulatory authorities, and the public gain a clearer, more comprehensive, and more accurate understanding of the EVFTA commitments, thereby enabling them to effectively capitalize on the opportunities offered by the Agreement.
