Switzerland's efforts to secure more lucrative trade relations with the US continue.

This was conveyed by Swiss Finance Minister Karin Keller-Sutter after top Swiss company officials met with US President Donald Trump earlier this week.

Switzerland was shaken after Trump charged 39% of Swiss imports in August, one of the highest import duties imposed in his global trade reset.

Keller-Sutter, who was criticized for her handling of the dispute, said she had fulfilled her duties when she spoke to Trump before the announcement of the tariff.

"He disagreed with the negotiated deal. Point," he told the Blick newspaper in an article published on Thursday, November 6.

"We have to accept this fact. Negotiations are still ongoing," he continued.

He remains silent about the negotiations, or whether an agreement can be reached this year.

"In the end, the decision to agree or disagree is in the hands of the US president," Keller-Sutter said.

Swiss companies have also been trying to persuade Trump to cut fares, with a delegation of business leaders meeting Trump at the White House on Tuesday.

The group, which consists of executives from shipping company MSC, Rolex watchmaker, Partners Group investment firm, Mercuria commodity trader, owner Cartier Richemont (CFR.S), and precious metal company MKS, organize to draw attention to the consequences of US tariffs on their company, the Swiss economy ministry said.
