Mexico would welcome Japan
14/08/2012 49Mexico would welcome Japan's entry into the Trans-Pacific Partnership trade negotiations, according to Carlos Guzman, director-general of ProMexico, a governmental trade institution.
In an interview on Thursday, Guzman explained that the United States accounts for 78 percent of Mexico's overall exports.
He said that by joining the free trade pact, Mexico would like to increase exports to Japan and other Asian nations as well as South America.
He also said Mexico is especially keen to boost its exports to the Asia-Pacific region, underscoring the importance of Japan, as it is the only country in Asia that has concluded an economic partnership agreement with Mexico.
Asked about Japan's possible entry into the TPP talks, Guzman said Mexico has built a good relationship with Japan and would welcome the move.
