Ukraine not to restrict grain export in 2012: PM
04/07/2012 106KIEV, July 3 (Xinhua) -- Ukrainian Prime Minister Mykola Azarov said here Tuesday his country will not place any restrictions on grain exports as the domestic market situation is stable.
"We expect quite a good grain crop, and do not plan to introduce any restrictions that we had to impose in 2010," Azarov said during consultations with representatives of NGOs working in agriculture.
The country hopes to harvest about 47 million tons of grain this year, Azarov said, adding that the government expects to maintain Ukraine's strong position on the world grain market in the current marketing year --between July 1, 2012 and June 30, 2013.
At the same time, Azarov reminded that this year the country was faced with difficult weather conditions, in particular the autumn drought, cold winters and dry spring.
In 2011, Ukraine saw an all-time record grain harvest of nearly 56 million tons and was able to export over 22.5 million tons of cereals.
In 2010, the Ukrainian government introduced quotas on grain exports to ensure the country's food safety.
