Magazine "International Economic Integration" - May 2026

By: WTO and International Trade Group, Legal Department – VCCI

May 2026 witnessed several notable developments in Vietnam's international economic integration process, intertwined with fluctuations in international economic relations and the refinement of domestic policies. Internationally, global trade continued to be impacted by competition between major economies, as evidenced by the US-China Summit in Beijing, the strengthening of the strategic partnership between Russia and China, and new developments at the WTO, the US, and the EU related to fisheries subsidies, economic sanctions, and anti-deforestation regulations. Domestically, Vietnam faced significant trade issues such as the US Section 301 investigation into intellectual property and the risk of investigation into its seafood trade. Simultaneously, Vietnam continues to strengthen its integration capacity through the establishment of a Government Negotiation Team on International Economic and Trade Affairs, the issuance of regulations implementing the Vietnam-UAE CEPA, the completion of the legal framework for the carbon market, the announcement of the PCI 2025, and the issuance of the first ATA Carnet to Vietnamese businesses.

The May 2026 International Economic Integration Newsletter, compiled by VCCI, summarizes the above developments and expected integration events in June 2026, aiming to provide reference information for the business community, management agencies, researchers, and readers interested in Vietnam's international economic integration process.
