Vietnamese dairy producer TH Group and Dai Bieu Nhan Dan (People’s Deputies) Newspaper held a seminar in Hanoi on November 14 to discuss measures to boost the export of agricultural products to China through official channels.

According to Le Thanh Hoa, Deputy Director of the Agricultural Product Processing and Market Development Department under the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, China is a large market with a huge demand for agricultural products but Vietnam’s exports to the country account for less than 2% of China’s total import revenue. Thus, there remains large room for Vietnamese enterprises to foster exports to China.

Mai Thi Anh Tuyet, a National Assembly deputy from An Giang province, said that it is not easy to meet the strict requirements of the Chinese market. An Giang province currently exports rice and tra fish to China and only one local enterprise is eligible to export to the country.

Tuyet suggested further involvement of the State in supporting enterprises through appropriate policies to help them adapt to new export regulations.

Hoang Thi Thanh Thuy, Director of International Trade of TH Group said that the Chinese approval of the export of Vietnamese dairy products to the Chinese market is really a "sweet fruit" for Vietnamese enterprises who have made great efforts in meeting Chinese standards over recent years.

Le Thanh Hoa also noted that the official export of Vietnamese dairy products to China through an official channel marks a turning point in Vietnam’s negotiations and settlement of export supervision issues, opening opportunities for the export of other livestock products to China and other demanding markets.
